Scottish Power Transmission has awarded two strategic frameworks worth a combined £5.4bn for works to expand its onshore electricity infrastructure across central and southern Scotland.
The substation and overhead line contracts will support Scottish Power’s Holistic Network Design programme, which aims to accelerate grid capacity to meet growing energy demand and connect renewable generation.
Both agreements run for five years, with options to extend to 10 years.
A £2.4bn strategic agreement for substation works covers engineering, design, and construction across five lots. Contractors will deliver civil and electrical works through a mix of aggregated and disaggregated models.
Framework partners will be appointed to individual projects using NEC4 contracts, but Scottish Power made no guarantee of volume or value of work in its contract award notice.
Simultaneously, the client awarded places on its £3bn overhead lines framework, split into three lots.
It includes the design and construction of 132kV, 275kV and 400kV overhead lines.
The frameworks will also support baseline upgrades under the RIIO-T2 and RIIO-T3 regulatory periods, and may extend to customer connection works.
Projects remain subject to planning and land consent.
