What Happened When Jahmyr Gibbs Met Hollywood Star Tobey Maguire?

Gibbs, who was drafted 12th overall in 2023, recently shared the story of his encounter with Maguire on the St. Brown Podcast, revealing that he met the iconic actor at the 2025 Fanatics Fest. The running back recalled being completely star-struck and asked Maguire for a picture. However, his request was politely declined, leaving Gibbs disappointed.

“I met Tobey at the Fanatics party. I was so star-struck,” Gibbs said. “First time ever. I was like, ‘Oh sh*t.’ I asked him, I was like, ‘Can I get a picture?’ He was like, ‘I’ve had a few drinks, so it’s ehhh.’ I was like, ‘Oh yeah, bet. I get it.’ I turned around, I was sad as sh*t.”

The situation became even funnier when Gibbs saw that someone else had gotten a photo with Maguire, adding to his disbelief.

“Then it was hilarious on Twitter…I think Kai Cenat and him took a picture. I was like, ‘Are you f**king serious?’”

Gibbs laughed off the moment, showing that even rising NFL stars can have humbling and downright funny encounters with their heroes. On the field, however, the 23-year-old continues to soar, having recently set a new record for rushing touchdowns alongside teammate David Montgomery.

Heading into Week 3, Gibbs had rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown through the Lions’ first two games, while Montgomery sat at 82 yards and a touchdown.

In the first half of the Monday Night Football clash against the Baltimore Ravens, both of the running backs set a new NFL record, living up to their “Sonic and Knuckles” nickname. The duo added another touchdown each in the second half.

The running backs they surpassed, Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor, Hugh McElhenny, and Joe Perry, are all enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame. Hornung and Taylor set their record with the Green Bay Packers, while McElhenny and Perry did so with the San Francisco 49ers.

By the end of the game, Montgomery finished with 12 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns, while Gibbs carried the ball 22 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Their combined four-touchdown performance powered the Lions to a 38-30 victory over the Ravens.
