An online college football site responded to On3 college football insider Pete Nakos’ tweet about Auburn having absurd talent next year, with Coleman and Deuce Knight taking charge and helping their new coach give the Tigers some relevance in the SEC.

“Bold of you to assume cam Coleman is staying at Auburn after this year,” the account tweeted.

A fan claiming to be an alumnus of Auburn wanted Coleman to stay and advised the school’s athletic department to pull out all the necessary stops to retain him next season.

The user said, “Lock Cam Coleman down in Aubie’s house under Jordan-Hare Stadium and just send him food and women until the transfer portal closes.”

Auburn has just fired head coach Hugh Freeze after the team went 4-5 (1-5 in the SEC) this season, and D.J. Durkin is working as interim coach for the remainder of the season. The seven-point overtime defeat to No. 15 Vanderbilt showed that there’s still fight in the Tigers that Freeze never saw in the team’s previous five losses, which led to his removal.

The interim coach spoke highly of Coleman after the game, expressing confidence about his ability to execute the plays perfectly.

“Cam’s one of the best players in the country,” Durkin said. “He’s a great teammate, he never gets down or frustrated. It’s never about him, it’s about his team. We have confidence in Cam. He’ll make the plays in those moments and he did.”

Auburn still has two games remaining in their schedule against Mercer (November 22) and No. 4 Alabama (November 29). The Tigers need to win both matches to be bowl eligible, and they’ll need a lot of Coleman to boost their hopes down the stretch.
