Jan. 15 (UPI) — Retired CBS Philadelphia news anchor Jim Donovan’s love for colorful footwear earned him the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of socks.
Donovan said his colorful socks were noticed by viewers during his tenure on the air, and fans started to send him new pairs to add to his collection — including some bearing his own face.
“A lot of people have sent me socks over the years with my face on it — I know, it’s a little crazy,” he told Guinness World Records.
He officially earned the title to coincide with his retirement. Guinness World Records confirmed his collection includes 1,531 unique pairs.
Donovan said breaking a Guinness World Record was a “bucket-list item” for him.
“I remember I was eight years old and my parents gave me a copy of the Guinness World Records book, and I flipped through it, thinking ‘Boy, I wonder if I could beat some of these records someday,'” he said.
