The Eagles former QB3 is headed to Dallas.

After being traded by the Minnesota Vikings to the Eagles ahead of the 2025 season, Sam Howell didn’t take a single snap for Philadelphia. And now he’ll be headed to the Cowboys. The free agent quarterback has agreed to a sign a one-year deal with Dallas, per reports. He’ll be on the same roster with another former Eagles depth quarterback in Will Grier.

The Eagles felt the need to add Howell ahead of the 2025 season when QB2 Tanner McKee was dealing with an injury. He began the regular season as Jalen Hurts’ primary backup until McKee eventually got healthy. With McKee having one year left on his rookie deal, there was no need for Philadelphia to try and keep Howell this offseason.

It’s not necessarily ideal that Howell will be going to the Eagle’s division rival. But the move won’t likely prove to be much of a competitive advantage given all of the offensive schematic changes expected under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion this season anyway.
