Soft serve and chocolate fudge crunch and frosting, oh my!
At this point in my life, I’m a certified Dairy Queen fiend. Being from Illinois, the official home of the Queen herself, I’m used to seeing one on basically every other corner. It was the ice cream shop we’d walk to on hot summer days to order Blizzards. And calling the chain’s soft serve iconic barely covers it. She owns that ice cream throne for a reason.
Now that love’s favorite day is just around the corner, we’re being gifted the Dairy Queen Valentine’s Cupcakes.
What are the Dairy Queen Valentine’s cupcakes?
Dairy Queen wanted a miniature take on its classic fudge and crunch cakes, and in doing so, created the Valentine’s cupcakes. These single-serve sweets start with a layer of classic chocolate soft serve, followed by a layer of chocolate fudge crunch and then topped with creamy vanilla soft serve and bright pink, red or white frosting with tiny heart sprinkles.
How do the DQ Valentine’s cupcakes taste?

At first glance, the cupcakes are colorful and inviting. You can see each layer distinctly, and being such a huge lover of the chain’s soft serve, I was more than ready to dive in. Though they’re located in the same freezer section as DQ’s famous ice cream cakes, you don’t have to wait 30 minutes to eat them like the full cakes. I shoved my spoon down to the very bottom to make sure I grabbed a little bit of each layer. And yes, while calling this a “cupcake” is quite the stretch, it was as delicious as I expected it to be.
If you’ve ever partaken in a twist cone (or a zebra cone, as it’s known around here), it’s almost an exact replica with a satisfying crunch in the middle. While I wished there were a bit more of the fudge crunch for a textural difference, I thought the placement was masterful. Chocolate and vanilla marry into a scrumptious bite, and I soon found myself unable to stop. By the end, the colorful frosting coated the entire inside of the cup.
Final Thoughts
While the Valentine’s cupcakes aren’t really different from the normal Dairy Queen cupcakes, they’re still a stellar decision for the price. They currently have a 2-for-$6 deal while supplies last, which is more than enough reason for me to visit again. It’s an adorable little treat to share with a loved one in honor of Valentine’s Day.
