We Mistrust Politicians

Milk Carton Kids

Politicians rushed to place fear and created “The Missing Childrens Act” (1982).

The misinformation – 50,000 to 1.5 million kids were being abducted (kidnapped) by strangers annually.

The Reality – The majority of missing children were runaways or victims of custody disputes. In fact there were only 200-300 kids per year being abducted by strangers.

The lasting policy results – Where once kids were allowed to roam freely in play, they learned to solve their own problems. Now, highly-structured, over-supervised childhoods began in the 1980’s. These generations show higher rates of anxiety and a sense of helplessness when facing adult obstacles.

Unsupervised play is more than fun for kids; it is a training ground for future social skills. Without it they don’t solve their own problems because they grow up with interfering adults. Milk Carton Kids seemed to have the inability to self-regulate. They exhibited trauma when they hit the real world. Mom and Dad were no longer there. Growing up I don’t remember any kids having panic attacks.

The above has occurred with the overwhelming majority of parents not even knowing it. They even started arresting parents who allowed their 10 year old to walk and play in the park by themselves.

Mass Deportation of people – Spain

The expulsion of non-Catholics and Jews from Spain (1492).

They were afraid of poisoning their blood’so they engaged in religious and social purity.

The Result

Historians concluded this was a key factor in Spain’s eventual economic decline, going from the richest country in the world to a bankrupt country. Funny thing, the European powers like the Netherlands and the Ottoman Empire, which welcomed the refugees, saw their own economies boom as a result.

Mass Deportation of People – Uganda

In 1972 Idi Amin ordered the expulsion of about 50,000 – 80,000 South Asians with the accusation they were “sabotaging the economy.” The plan was to return Uganda’s economic control back to Ugandans.

Asians made up 90% of Uganda’s trade and commerce which included doctors, lawyers, and engineers. They redistributed their business(es) to Idi Amin’s cronies who had no experience in those professions.

The Result

A collapsed economy where manufacturing stopped, shops ran out of basic goods, and Uganda entered a period of hyperinflation and severe poverty that lasted for decades.

Mass Deportation of People –

“Mexican Repatriation” in the United States (1930s)

We have tried this before and long before SB1070 in Arizona. We deported between 400,000 and 2 million people of Mexican decent including US citizens! The idea was to open up jobs for “Real Americans.” Attempting to reduce unemployment with native-born Americans.

The Result

Unemployment for native-born American workers actually increased. The low skilled labor loss forced business(es) to cut back or shut down. This also eliminated the higher skilled managerial and clerical jobs held by native-born Americans.

Mass Deportation of people does not work

  • Low-skilled immigrant labor supports high-skilled native jobs.
  • Deported people can no longer buy things in America. Losing millions of consumers hits hard.
  • Just like Spain and Uganda the deported people take their human capital and assets with them. This leaves the country they left less productive.
  • Any country that sees children as a liability is probably a sick country

The proper way to make a journey is by the path of the people who have done so successfully in the past, not the path that was unsuccessful and damaging.
