US-Iran-Israel War Live Updates: US President Donald Trump said the United States will postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period.
GIFT Nifty, which is an early indicator of how markets are likely to move in the upcoming session, jumped after Trump’s remarks, which came after market closing hours in India. The GIFT Nifty is up over 700 points after the US President’s post on Truth Social.
US stock futures also jumped sharply. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures surged 1,130 points, or 2.5%, in a sudden move following the comments. S&P 500 futures rose 2.3%, while Nasdaq-100 futures advanced 2.2%. The gains came immediately after Trump’s statement on the talks and the decision to pause planned strikes.
The Iran-United States-Israel war has continued to intensify, with Tehran warning of sweeping retaliation if its energy infrastructure is targeted, spreading tensions across the wider West Asia region.
Iran said it would “completely shut” the Strait of Hormuz and retaliate against energy and water infrastructure across the region if the United States launches strikes on Iranian power plants.
The threat followed a sharp statement from US President Donald Trump, who warned Tehran of severe consequences if the strategic waterway is not reopened.
“If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!” Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.
Israeli officials said Iran had fired long-range missiles for the first time since the current escalation began on February 28, raising fears that the conflict could extend beyond West Asia.
Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir said Iran launched two ballistic missiles with a range of about 4,000 kilometres towards the US-UK military base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
Israeli forces destroyed the Qasimiyah Bridge in southern Lebanon, which Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described as a “prelude to ground invasion”, as per Al Jazeera. Meanwhile, air strikes reportedly targeted the headquarters of the Iran-aligned Popular Mobilisation Forces in Baghdad following attacks on a US diplomat and a logistics centre at the Iraqi capital’s main airport.
