Fashion designer Amber Keating has listed her historic Potts Point property Killoutan with a $22m price guide.
The Arts & Crafts-style mansion at 8 Challis Ave had been a 14-room boutique hotel called Simpsons of Potts Point when Keating bought it for $12.5m in 2020.
Her intention had been to turn it back into one of the suburb’s grandest private homes, just as its original architect, John Barlow, had intended when it was built in 1891 for one of his cousins.
Keating called in one of the best contemporary architects of the time, Alec Tzannes, to design a massive modern rear extension—a huge greenhouse-style room—inspired by Paris’s House of Glass.

It’s taken three years to get the DA for what will become a 1000sqm residence through council, and now Keating, who has counted Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond and Patrick Keating, son of former PM Paul Keating, among her former husbands, has opted to leave the construction task to new owners.
The incredible property is listed with Richardson & Wrench’s Jason Boon and Geoff Cox in conjunction with Clint Ballard and Maclay Longhurst of Sotheby’s.

The agents expect once complete, the finished home could be the best in Potts Point, rivalling the grandest homes of New York and London.
Keating has been using the property as the base for her high-end fashion label Common Hours and a space for other creative types to work.
She’s quite happy living in her beautifully renovated Paddington home, art dealer Denis Savill’s former gallery, purchased for $5.3m in 2021.
Potts Point is dominated by apartments, with her Challis Ave property one of the few freestanding homes.
Her former father-in-law, Paul Keating, lives in one of the grand terraces nearby.
The residential record for Potts Point is $34m for Bomera, bought by British steel baron Sanjeev Gupta in 2019.
