“It’s the biggest venue we’ve ever had in the sport,” said Michael Phelps, in awe of Lucas Oil Stadium while talking to Pat McAfee. The famous Indianapolis stadium was the home to the US Swimming Olympic Trials for the upcoming Paris Games. Just last week, it saw swimming stars such as Caeleb Dressel, Kate Douglass, and Katie Ledecky mark their presence in its newly built pool.
Famously known as the home field of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, the Lucas Oil Stadium has a seating capacity of up to 70,000. From hosting NFL games to hosting the Olympic trials for the biggest sporting extravaganza, the Indianapolis stadium can host any popular event easily. And it seems they have got their opportunity after signing a three-event deal as it’s time to play the game!

Indianapolis… are you excited to see the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns giving a spear to Cody Rhodes? Or would you like to chant ‘LA Knight!’? While the state has already witnessed WWE’s WrestleMania and SummerSlam PPV events, it will witness the Royal Rumble for the first time. And the host is surprisingly the US Swimming Olympic Trials host stadium!
On June 24, the WWE released a statement announcing a three-event deal with the Lucas Oil Stadium. The US Swimming Olympic Trials host venue will see 30 superstar wrestlers running into the Royal Rumble ring on February 1, 2025. While in the subsequent years, it will experience WrestleMania and SummerSlam pay-per-view!

WWE’s Chris Legentil announced, “We’re excited to invite the WWE Universe to Lucas Oil Stadium for Royal Rumble in 2025, and a future SummerSlam and WrestleMania.” While President of Indiana Sports Corp Patrick Talty also expressed his excitement, “We look forward to welcoming the WWE Universe to our community and state and showing them all that Indy has to offer.”
Fans will witness some of the most popular superstars in wrestling entertainment at Lucas Oil Stadium in the coming years. However, WWE’s PPV events aren’t their only achievement. The Indianapolis stadium has a long list in its resume!
Lucas Oil Stadium hosted the Super Bowl years before the WWE deal

Sitting in downtown Indianapolis, the home field of the Indianapolis Colts had the honor of hosting the Super Bowl XLVI on February 5, 2012. Interestingly, it was the first time Indiana hosted the Super Bowl event. The event was a grand success for the NFL as the stadium was house-packed and New York won the championship!
Apart from NFL games, the Lucas Oil Stadium saw famous musicians such as Kenny Chesney, Madonna, and Taylor Swift hosting a concert. After the honor of having conducted the 2024 US Swimming Olympic Trials, it will be interesting to see if crowds turn up for the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble in 2025!
