BMW Recalls Nearly 1.5 Million vehicles In China Over Defective Airbags

BMW is recalling 1.4 million cars in China. The market watchdog in that country announced this on Friday. The reason for this is defective airbags in the cars. It is not the first recall related to these problems.

The airbags from Japanese manufacturer Takata can rupture, sending fragments “flying out and potentially injuring occupants,” the watchdog said. The recall concerns cars produced between 2003 and 2017. Nearly 600,000 models were made in China, while the remaining 760,000 or so were imported. The German carmaker will replace the airbags free of charge.

Since 2014, millions of cars equipped with Takata airbags have been recalled. The Japanese manufacturer went bankrupt three years later. BMW recalled nearly 400,000 vehicles in the United States for the same reason in July of this year. Ford began a recall of three million vehicles in 2021.
