The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a partly cloudy sky for Delhi on Sunday, April 20, and light to moderate rain in many states across the country.
Heatwave conditions are also likely to ease in Rajasthan and other states from Sunday, according to the latest bulletin from the Met Department.
Light to moderate rainfall at most places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty or squally winds are also likely over the western Himalayan region on April 20, the IMD said.
Delhi and several parts of north India experienced a sudden shift in weather, bringing temporary relief from the sweltering summer heat on Friday evening.

In Delhi, temperatures dropped to around 38 degrees Celsius under a cloudy sky, accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40 km/h and light rain. This followed a 24-hour period of hot and dry conditions.
Delhi NCR weather update
According to the weather agency, Delhi-NCR region will witness a partly cloudy sky with surface wind speed between 10-20 km/h throughout the day on April 20.
The maximum and minimum temperatures will remain between 37–39 degrees Celsius and rest at 25–27 degrees Celsius, respectively, the IMD said.
Hailstorms and lightning alert
The weather agency predicted isolated hailstorms and squally winds with lightning over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand on April 20. Most of these places may also witness light to moderate rain.
The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the officials to conduct relief work promptly, in view of the hailstorm and lightning warnings.

“The officers should visit the area, conduct a survey, and monitor the relief work. In case of loss of life or animal due to the disaster, the relief amount should be distributed to the affected immediately. The injured should be given proper treatment,” said a statement by the CM Office, reported ANI.
The Yogi government also asked the officials to conduct surveys for assessing the crop loss and sending the report to the government for further actions.
J&K, Himachal Pradesh weather alert
A western disturbance affecting northern India generates heavy rainfall and snow alongside thunderstorms and hailstorms, according to the IMD, throughout Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of Ladakh, as well as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Alerts are categorised as follows:
During April 20–21, the regions of Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand remained under an active orange alert for severe windstorms and thunderstorms. J&K’s Ramban district experienced heavy rainfall and hailstorm on the morning of April 20, which triggered a landslide, resulting in several houses being damaged, reported ANI.

Gusty winds at 30–50 km/hour speeds could be witnessed in multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will probably see isolated hailstorms.
Heat wave from April 21
The IMD predicts that most regions of north India will face hot and dry weather from April 21 until further developments. The upcoming weather conditions will become more unbearable because of rising temperatures and clear skies, along with steady surface winds.
Agra has already reached temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius, and western Uttar Pradesh will experience similar temperature trends.
