Israel Iran War LIVE Updates: Israel launched airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear programme and military targets in the early hours of Friday, June 13. These strikes killed Hossein Salami, the Iran Revolutionary Guards chief, and Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff. Following the attack, Iran’s Supreme Leader warned of a “severe punishment”. Subsequently, Iran launched about 100 drones at Israel.
Soon after, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in a statement, said the US is not involved in the strikes against Iran. Although the US distanced itself from any association, US President Donald Trump told Fox News that he was aware Israel was going to conduct strikes on Iran before they happened, according to the US broadcaster.
Iran, however, remains unconvinced. Hours after the attack, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, spokesperson for Iran’s Armed Forces, told state media that the military strikes were carried out with US support and that “Israel will pay a heavy price”.
The action is likely to derail the ongoing talks for a nuclear deal between the US and Iran.
