Dana White might already be getting to work on bringing Usman Nurmagomedov to the UFC roster.
Nurmagomedov competed in the last fight on his PFL deal this past Friday. The undefeated PFL Lightweight Champion raised his free agency stock even further by delivering a first-round knockout over the previously unbeaten Archie Colgan. After the fight, Nurmagomedov and MVP’s Jake Paul had a back-and-forth over the Dagestan bruiser’s future. Paul has entered the fray given that his promotion will be merging with PFL.
During a chat with reporters during the UFC Belgrade post-fight press conference, White was about the interest level in signing Nurmagomedov. The UFC boss had a noticeable smile on his face, and he simply said “sure.”
Nurmagomedov’s legendary cousin, Khabib, took to his Instagram account to say that the reigning PFL champion at 155 pounds is better than any lightweight in the world.
“Over the past couple of years, he has shown and proven that he is the best lightweight outside the UFC.
Not with words, but with his performances.
“When I said back in 2020 that Islam was the best at the time, there were a lot of people who disagreed—but believe me, guys, there are different levels in this game.
“You’ll see for yourselves what happens next; negotiations will take place next month, and very soon you’ll find out which league he’ll continue to compete in.
“For my part, I’d like to thank @pflmma and personally @kogan_mike for their care and for how they treat the fighters—words can’t describe how grateful our entire team is to the league and all the staff for their work and attitude.
“As for @amru_magomedov, I’ll keep it short: today, I’d put him up against any top lightweight in the world. I’ve been in this game for a long time, and I know what I’m talking about.
“Anyway, let’s move forward. Thank you to all our fans—Alhamdulillah, there are so many of you, and we appreciate it and are doing our best to make you all happy.”
Whether or not the MVP-PFL merger will have any impact on Nurmagomedov’s decision remains to be seen. Nurmagomedov had competed under the Bellator banner prior to the PFL purchase. Once he was firmly under the PFL promotion, Nurmagomedov had a memorable clash with Paul Hughes in early 2025, and then another bout with the Irishman in October that same year.
