Kayla Harrison’s manager has claimed that the UFC women’s bantamweight champion will make her return later this year.

Courtesy of her win over Julianna Pena last summer, Kayla Harrison will now forever be remembered as a UFC world champion. However, she wants to do even more than that, with her big goal being to face off against Amanda Nunes in a superfight – a woman who is widely considered to be the greatest female fighter of all time.

Unfortunately, injuries have stepped in the way of that happening for Harrison up to this point. The hope from pretty much everyone in the mixed martial arts space is that we do get to see this fight, mainly because it’s one of the biggest bouts you can make in the entire sport right now.

In a recent interview, Harrison’s manager Ali Abdelaziz provided an update on when we can expect to see Kayla back in the Octagon.

Harrison expected to return this year

“Yeah, she will fight this year for sure,” Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie of Harrison. “Towards the end of the year, she will fight, but I’m the one honestly, I said, ‘You know what? I want you to take your time, don’t rush, be healthy.’ That’s the most important thing for her to do. Why does she need to rush? She’s the champion, everybody is chasing her, they have to wait for her.”

Kayla is one of the most fascinating athletes of her generation and hopefully, when she does eventually make her return to the cage, she’s able to do so at 100% – and we hope the same is true for Nunes.
