Liverpool finalise transfer agreement to sign Bradley Barcola from PSG

The Athletic has live coverage of the 2026 summer transfer window.

Liverpool have finalised an agreement to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Merseyside club will pay a package worth £106million (€125m) plus add-ons potentially rising to £17m (€20m) for the 23-year-old forward.

The France international is set to sign a five-year contract with Andoni Iraola’s side with a medical expected to take place in the next 24 hours.

As part of the agreement, Liverpool will make an additional £4.3m (€5m) solidarity payment for Barcola, covering the costs of the sell-on fee which Lyon negotiated with PSG upon his move in 2023.

Barcola had been identified as a key target for Liverpool to help replace Mohamed Salah, who departed at the end of last season, and Barcola had been committed to an Anfield move despite having two years left on his PSG contract.

A breakthrough in negotiations — helmed by sporting director Richard Hughes, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon for Liverpool and Nasser Al-Khelaifi for PSG — came after the Merseyside club held key talks on Tuesday to bring clarity over the proposed transfer.

Barcola was a regular for Luis Enrique’s side last season, making 49 appearances and contributing 13 goals and seven assists despite being in direct competition with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue as PSG defended both their Ligue 1 and Champions League titles.

He made his first-team breakthrough in the 2021-22 campaign and has registered 39 goals and 37 assists in 152 appearances, but was left out of their 2026-27 league opener against Rennes on Sunday and again from Friday night’s 2-2 draw at Lille.

What does this mean for Liverpool?

Analysis by Liverpool correspondent Gregg Evans

It has always been the case that the sooner this saga is resolved the better. Now we’re there.

Clearly Liverpool need a boost to their attacking ranks and Barcola is the one they’ve been waiting for all summer. He’s the wideman who could make a real difference with his direct and purposeful play.

Liverpool need a forward who can strike fear into opponents and Barcola, with his skillset, ticks all the boxes.

If all goes through, Iraola will now have another pacy winger he can turn to as he looks to impose a new front-foot style on the team.
