Xander Schauffele had the pleasure of walking the green with Michael Jordan, but he became one of the many whose trash-talking against the NBA’s GOAT backfired against them.
Schauffele recounted a story to Colt Knost of CBS Sports on how Jordan beat him after getting some motivation from his barbs.
“I did my best version of [trash talking] and then he beat me, straight up, which is embarrassing,” Schauffele said. “In the last three holes, yeah. I pancaked him on his stroke holes and I started talking s–t to him. He got all quiet, focused and then birdied like 15-16 no strokes, beat me straight up. I was like, ‘All right.'”
Schauffele is coming off a victory at the 2024 PGA Championship last month, which was his first major title of his career. However, it sounds like the loss to Jordan quickly brought him back to earth.
